Fourteen surgeries, so the specialist is already down the corridor

The Dental House opened in Old Swan in 2015 and grew into a fourteen-surgery practice built so that a complicated case never leaves the building. Two endodontists, two orthodontists, implant dentists, therapists and an intravenous sedation service work under one roof, and other Merseyside dentists refer patients here for treatment they would rather not attempt themselves. NHS and private care run side by side.

Treatments and services

Routine care covers examinations, hygiene, white fillings, crowns, bridges and dentures, with prevention taught from a baby’s first check-up onwards; restorative work extends to implants and full rehabilitation. Endodontics is taken by a dentist who handles re-treatments, fractured instruments, perforations, open apices and apical microsurgery. Orthodontics runs from metal and ceramic braces to Invisalign and other clear aligners. Composite bonding, veneers and whitening cover the cosmetic side, with facial aesthetics alongside. Urgent appointments are open to people registered nowhere, often with same-day treatment.

Technology

Digital radiography, a 3D intra-oral scanner that does away with impression trays, and a 3D printer that turns those scans into models, appliances and a preview of the planned smile. Root canals are treated under a high-power microscope with thermal obturation.

The clinicians

Clinical director Stuart Garton is an implantologist holding a restorative diploma from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Clinical lead Riccardo Lo Giudice — Rick to his patients — graduated with distinction in restorative dentistry and holds a postgraduate diploma in restorative and aesthetic dentistry. Amaar Hassan, specialist in orthodontics, was ranked first at national specialty recruitment. Sedation is given by Natalie Ohlson-Turner, a hospital specialty doctor in oral surgery with a diploma in conscious sedation. Garton and Lo Giudice are appointed educational supervisors; the practice trains a foundation dentist and its own nurses.

Families who want one practice for every generation. Patients sent by their own dentist for implants, endodontics or sedation. Adults whose fear has kept them away for years. Wheelchair users and parents with prams: entry is level and ramped, ground-floor surgeries have widened doorways, and the patient WC has baby-change facilities.
